SCBC Faculty and Students win 12 Awards at HSYITC
On October 20, the results of the Han Suyin International Translation Competition (HSYITC) were announced. Hosted by the School of Advanced Translationand Interpretation at DUFL, this event was jointly organized by the Translators Association of China, Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies, and Dalian University of Foreign Languages (DUFL). Xie Yixian, a student majoring in Spanish Grade 2024 from SCBC, won the First Prize in Spanish-to-Chinese Translation with her solid language foundation and superb translation skills. Ruan Junyi, a student of the English (Teacher Education) program Grade 2022, won the Third Prize in English-to-Chinese Translation.
Additionally, five faculty members and five students received Excellence Awards across eight categories: English-to-Chinese, Chinese-to-English, Japanese-to-Chinese, Chinese-to-Japanese, French-to-Chinese, Russian-to-Chinese, Spanish-to-Chinese, and Chinese-to-Spanish. This outstanding achievement of 12 faculty and student awardees simultaneously set a new record for SCBC in this competition, fully demonstrating the comprehensive strength of our foreign language education and the solid professional competence of our faculty and students.
SCBC and MYTC Renew Agreement to Deepen Cooperation in Key Areas
On October 21, a delegation led by Ding Xiaojun, Chairman of SCBC, and Lai Zhili, Vice President of SCBC, also an alumnus of Mianyang Teacher’s College (MYTC), visited MYTC in Sichuan for exchange activities. The two parties successfully held a ceremony to renew our Education and Development Cooperation Agreement. Moving forward, both sides will deepen collaboration in key areas: expanding faculty and student exchanges, jointly cultivating high-caliber talents, strengthening scientific research and academic exchanges, establishing high-quality student recruitment bases, and more. Li Min, Deputy Party Secretary and President of MYTC, received the delegation led by Ding Xiaojun.
Ding Xiaojun expressed sincere gratitude for the thoughtful arrangements made by MYTC. He emphasized the high importance SCBC places on the partnership with MYTC and expressed anticipation for deeper synergistic development between the two sides in areas such as talent cultivation, scientific research innovation, and resource sharing. Li Min highly commended SCBC's active contributions as a partner. She noted that this year marks the first time MYTC has sent four students to study at SCBC, signifying the transition of our collaboration from “unidirectional exchange” to a new phase of “two-way interaction.” She also praised the complementary strengths formed by SCBC's specialization in foreign languages and business disciplines and MYTC's advantages in teacher education.
In the witness of attendees, representatives from SCBC and MYTC formally renewed the educational development cooperation agreement. Following the signing ceremony, Li Min presented Lai Zhili with the first-place certificate for MYTC's “My Story in MYTC” essay contest. The award recognized his outstanding work, which expressed a profound affection for his alma mater. Lai Zhili expressed his gratitude to his alma mater for its nurturing support and reaffirmed his commitment to continuing efforts to advance mutually beneficial development between the two universities.
Graduates of SCBC Take Center Stage at Job Fair
On the afternoon of October 23, the track and field ground of SCBC was bustling with activity for the 2026 Graduates' Job Fair (Comprehensive Special Session). Nearly 200 companies brought over 8,000 job openings to recruit talent. Graduates from majors such as International Trade, Business English, and Marketing found numerous suitable positions. Due to their scarcity, Arabic majors were highly sought-after, highlighting the deep alignment between SCBC's “foreign language + specialized field” compoud talent cultivation model and market demand. President Wang Hua and Party Secretary Xu Zhichao personally visited the event for observance and guidance. They participated in the “Live Streaming” activity and conducted in-depth visits to the policy promotion zone and employment service stations, demonstrating SCBC's high priority on graduate employment and its multi-faceted efforts to promote it.
SCBC Hosts the Second International Symposium on “Craftsmanship” in the Translation of Chinese Culture
On the afternoon of October 24, the Second International Symposium on “Craftsmanship” in the Translation of Chinese Culture, hosted by SCBC, commenced in the International Academic Lecture Hall. During one and a half days of symposium, domestic and international experts and scholars from universities, research institutions, and publishing organizations, engaged in in-depth exchanges on core themes through intensive sessions, including keynote speeches and roundtable forums, establishing a high-level platform for academic dialogue.
In his opening address, President Wang Hua emphasized that translation serves as avital engine for cultural exchange and national progress. He calledon universities to innovate education by leveraging technology as atool with culture as its core to advance the global dissemination of Chinese culture. Huang Youyi, Executive Vice President of the Translators Association of China, fully affirmed SCBC's achievements in translating and disseminating Chinese culture. He emphasized that translation serves as a vital bridge connecting Chinese culture with global civilizations and is a key vehicle for telling China's stories effectively. He encouraged more young scholars to engage in cultural translation endeavors, contributing to the promotion of Chinese culture worldwide and fostering mutual learning among civilizations.
The symposium featured multiple keynote speeches. Ten renowned scholars from China and abroad, including Tao Youlan, Professor at Fudan University; Huang Hong, Professor at Nanjing University; Tim Beaumont, Associate Professor at Shenzhen University; and Yang Ke, Professor at Shenzhen MSU-BIT University, shared cutting-edge research on critical topicsin Chinese cultural translation.
During the “Expert Dialogue” segment, five specialists, Wang Xinjie, Chen Yan, Qin Mingwu, Xu Feng, and Chen Sheng,engaged in in-depth discussions on “Translation and Culture.” They emphasized that translation's essence lies in cultural collision and fusion, extending far beyond mere textual conversion, thus requiring translators to master the conveyance of imagery. They stressed that universities should commit to liberal arts education, cultivating versatile talents equipped with linguistic proficiency, cultural literacy, and specialized knowledge.
The subsequent roundtable forum focused on five cutting-edge topics to chart thecourse for Chinese cultural translation. The discussions coveredtranslation talent cultivation, discourse construction inforeign-language translations, AI technology empowerment, bridging cultural differences, and the mission of publishing. These sessions were chaired by experts including Tong Jun, Liu Kanglong, Li Yuan,Chen Yiping, and You Jinghai. The discussions pooled insights from multiple perspectives, offering diverse and constructive solutions, from theory to practice, for enhancing the international dissemination of Chinese culture.
Professor Li Ming, Deputy Director of Center for Multilingual Translation and Dissemination Studies of Chinese Culture of SCBC, delivered the concluding remarks. He summarized the conference's achievements in theoretical research, practical approaches, and talent developmentfor Chinese cultural translation. He expressed confidence that the consensus and insights gathered would profoundly advance this field and lay a solid foundation for future collaborative innovation.
This symposium was jointly organized by the Provincial Key Research Base for Humanities and Social Sciences of SCBC, “Center for Multilingual Translation and Dissemination Studies of Chinese Culture”, the university-level first-class discipline “Foreign Languages and Literatures,” and the University Federation of Social Sciences. It received co-organizational support from the School of Interpreting and Translation Studies at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and the Institute of Translation and Intercultural Communication atTian jin Foreign Studies University. Leveraging the strengths of overten foreign languages taught at SCBC, the center has been dedicated to research on the translation and dissemination of Chinese culture abroad. Its work provided solid support for the successful convening of this symposium.
Ding Xiaojun Leads Delegation to HBU to Deepen Cooperation
To further advance collaboration and enhance talent cultivation mechanisms, on October 25, 2025, Ding Xiaojun, Chairman of the board of SCBC, led a delegation to Hubei University (HBU). The visit included meeting with ten exchange students from SCBC and engaging in in-depth discussions with HBU officials on topics such as talent development, educational pedagogy, discipline construction, and curriculum reform.
Xie Hongxing, Secretary of the Party Committee of HBU, expressed strong recognition of the collaborative projects between the two universities and full affirmation of the students from SCBC. He pledged robust support for expanding deeper cooperation, fostering further exchange and collaboration between the universities, and jointly pursuing a brighter future. Ding Xiaojun extended sincere gratitude for HBU's warm welcome and thoughtful arrangements, while highly commending the initial achievements of the exchange program. He expressed hope that this exchange would serve as an opportunity to deepen collaboration in faculty development, curriculum sharing, and joint academic research, collectively advancing the quality of talent cultivation in journalism and communication education.
