Founded in 1996, SCBC evolved through Guangzhou South China Girls' School, Guangzhou South China Business School, and Guangzhou South China Business Specialized School. In 2006, it was formally established as South China Business College Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (SCBC) with approval from the Ministry of Education, operating as an independent undergraduate college.

Located in Guangzhou, SCBC is adjacent to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport and Guangzhou Baiyun High-Speed Rail Station. Spanning over 900 acres, the campus features an elegant environment equipped with comprehensive facilities and rigorous academic management, providing an ideal setting for students to pursue their studies.

SCBC is “founded for business majors, flourishing through foreign language majors, strengthened by integration, renowned for quality.” Since its founding, the university has clearly defined its educational positioning as “local, applied, and international.” Upholding the motto “Be virtuous and conduct oneself. Be well-versed in both Eastern and Western learning,” it adheres to the educational philosophy of “building the school on quality, strengthening it with talents, revitalizing it through distinctiveness, and shaping it with culture.” With the guiding principles of "teachers as the foundation, students as the core, cultivating talents through virtues and knowledge, establishing the university through distinctiveness”, the university highlights the distinctive features of "outstanding foreign language proficiency and practical application ability. After nearly three decades of development, SCBC has evolved into a distinctive university with high societal recognition. According to the Humanities and Social Sciences Development Report on China Higher Education in 2024, SCBC ranks 16th among private undergraduate universities (including independent colleges) nationwide.
