Vice President of Harding University Visits SCBC
On the afternoon of October 23, Vice President David Collins of Harding University, USA, and his delegation conducted a program presentation in Classroom H603. Vice President Collins, accompanied by Executive Director of Global Affairs Candice Moore and Director of Harding University's China and East Asia Programs Ling Xionghui, not only provided a detailed explanation of the cooperative program's features and advantages but also engaged in a face-to-face, open discussion with students of SCBC about academic planning and study abroad development. The atmosphere was lively and enthusiastic.
That evening, thedelegation attended the opening ceremony of the Second SCBC Music Festival and enjoyed the performance. Centered on the theme of “Telling Chinese Stories,” the concert built bridges of communication across borders through music. After the show, the delegation highly praised the Chinese cultural elements and artistic expressions showcased in the festival, laying a valuable foundation for deepening cultural exchanges between the two universities.

SCBC Successfully Holds the12th Student Congress
On the afternoon of October 23, the 12th Student Congress of SCBC was successfully held in Academic Lecture Hall C201. The congress systematically reviewed the Student Union's work, organized study sessions on the university's 15th Five-Year Development Plan, and elected the new Student Union Presidium and Committee members through competitive elections. President Wang Hua, Party Secretary of SCBC Xu Zhichao, and Deputy Party Secretary of SCBC and Vice President Zhao Fuchun attended the event, joined by 141 student representatives and 30 non-voting delegates.
In his opening address, President Wang Hua commended the Student Union's practical achievements over the past period, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all Student Union cadres and students for their dedicated contributions, and put forward three expectations for the attending delegates and all student cadres: Firstly, to fortify the foundation of faith and steady the helm of youth; secondly, to shoulder the responsibilities of the era and demonstrate the power of youth; and at the third, to practice the essence of service and spread the warmth of youth.
Tian Tian, a member of the Student Union's Presidium, delivered the work report for the 11th Student Union, comprehensively summarizing the primary tasks and achievements of the Student Union since the 11th Student Congress.
Subsequently, the four candidates for the 12th Student Union Executive Committee took the stage in turn to deliver their campaign speeches. Formal delegates conducted a competitive election through secret ballot, ultimately electing three members tothe 12th Student Union Executive Committee and ten members to the Student Union Committee.Wang Liming, Secretary of the University Communist Youth League Committee of SCBC, expressed profound expectations for the newly elected student leaders in his closing remarks.
SCBC Research Center for CIAE wins an award
On October 24, the 14th Southern Think Tank Forum was successfully held at the Dongguan Exhibition International Hotel. Centered on the theme “Resolutely Shouldering the Responsibility of a Major Economic Province and Building a More Internationally Competitive Modern Industrial System,” the forum presented the “2024 Provincial-level Outstanding Research Bases of the Guangdong Federation of Social Sciences Award” to the SCBC Research Center for Collaborative Innovation in Airport Economy (CIAE). Director Fu Guoyin of the SCBC Research Center attended the event, and Professor Kuang Mo accepted the award on the center’s behalf.

SCBC Martial arts team Achieves Historic Breakthrough
From October 25 to 26, 2025 Guangdong Provincial Southern Fist and Tai Chi Elite Competition was grandly held at the Guangzhou Experimental Secondary School Gymnasiumin Huangpu District. Seven athletes from SCBC's martial arts team competed in 13 events, demonstrating tenacious effort and outstanding performance. They ultimately secured 3 first prizes, 3 second prizes, 2 third prizes, 2 fourth prizes, and 1 ninth prize, achieving thebest results in the team's history. Notably, Feng Jiaqi claimed the championship in Women's C1 Group 42-Form Tai Chi Sword, Cai Ruyang secured the title in Men's C1 Group 24-Form Tai Chi Quan, and Huang Zihuan won the Women's C1 Group Traditional Southern Soft Instrument.Their outstanding performances marked a major breakthrough for SCBC in the Southern Fist and Tai Chi programme.

SCBC Students Participate in Tourist Publicity Event of Liwan District
Onthe afternoon of October 27, Zhong Zijie and Du Jiayin, students majoring in Tourism Management at SCBC, hosted the launch segment for “Fifteen Premium Cultural, Tourism, and Sports Routes” with fluent and confident English. The event was organized by the Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism, and Sports Bureau of Liwan District at the Cantonese Opera Art Museum, setting a brilliant international tone for the “Passionate National Games, Vibrant Liwan” campaign promoting the integrated development ofcultural, tourism, and sports industries.
Organized by the Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism, and Sports Bureau of Liwan District, this launch event aimed to vividly share Liwan's story with domestic and international guests. Additionally, the School of Management selected and trained 17 outstanding students from Accounting, Hotel Management, Marketing, Human Resource Management, and Financial Management majors of SCBC. These students participated in multiple segments of the event during a 10-day intensive preparation period.Throughout this process, several faculty leaders, including Vice Dean Chen Shuxing from the School of Management and Vice Dean Li Chunmei from the School of English Language and Culture, provided guidance and support to ensure the event's successful completion. The outstanding performance of our students received full recognition from the organizers.
Library Awards of SCBC Honors 34 Outstanding Faculty and Students
Onthe afternoon of October 30, the Library's Annual Awards Ceremony for the 2024-2025 academic year was held in the Academic Lecture Hall F101. A total of 13 outstanding library information assistants, 15 outstanding parttime-work students, 10 top volunteers, and 6 outstanding members of the Fengyan Reading Club were honored. Vice President Zhao Fuchun attended the ceremony and presented awards to first-prize recipients Ma Weimin (School of European Languages and Cultures) and Huang Yetong (School of English Language and Culture).
In his concluding remarks, Vice President Zhao extended congratulations to the honorees and fully affirmed the library's remarkable achievements over the past year. Looking ahead, Vice President Zhao expressed three hopes: Firstly, to align with the times by strengthening digital library development and advancing the transformation of our library into a “smart hub.” Secondly, to stay close to readers by expanding service areas and enhancing resource utilization efficiency. At the third, to strengthen collaboration to unite team efforts and jointly promote the construction of a book-loving campus. He encouraged all faculty and students to continue upholding the spirit of dedication and work together to build a modern library integrating knowledge, technology, and community.
SCBC Holds Seminar on Preparatory Work for Area Studies Institute
On October 31st, our university hosted a lecture on area studies and a planningmeeting for constructing an Area Studies Institute in theInternational Conference Hall. The meeting invited Professor Gu Yeli, former university supervisor of SCBC, and Professor Li Qing, Dean ofthe Guangdong Institute for International Strategies, as expert advisors. Vice President Wang Mingyu attended the meeting. Heads of relevant university departments participated as members of the preparatory working group. Discussions centered on ten key topics concerning the proposed establishment of the Area Studies Institute.
In his concluding remarks, Vice President Wang Mingyu emphasized thatArea studies serve as a vital tool for advancing national opening-up strategies and promoting interdisciplinary integration in higher education. Particularly during this critical phase of deepening the “Belt and Road Initiative” and enhancing the quality and efficiency of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area development, establishing the institute represents both a proactive alignment with national strategic needs and a fulfillment of higher education's mission. It further underscores SCBC's distinctive educational approach and serves as a key measure to break through disciplinary development barriers. He emphasized that this meeting should serve as a starting point for subsequent actions: Firstly, continuously to refine the preparatory plan and develop detailed implementation pathways to ensure efficient progress in establishing the institute. Secondly, to leverage SCBC’s strengths in foreign languages to integrate high-quality resources both within and outside the institution, thereby building a robust team of high-caliber research talent. At the third, to guide the institute to focus on key research directions, producing outcomes and policy recommendations that combine academic value with practical applicability.
Two Vice Presidents of SCBC Receives “Hongru Chuanxin Award”
On November 1st, the High-Level Forum on Innovation and Development of Digital Intelligence Empowering Foreign Language Education and the 2025 Academic Annual Conference of the Guangzhou Foreign Language Association, hosted by the Guangzhou Foreign Studies Association, was grandly held at Jinan University. Over 200 experts, scholars, frontline teachers, and industry researchers from the Guangzhou Federation of Social Sciences, Guangzhou Foreign Studies Association, and universities across the province gathered to explore new paradigms in AI-empowered foreign language education under the theme “AI Empowering Foreign Language Education: Reconstruction, Integration, Innovation.” They showcased cutting-edge research findings and pedagogical innovations while charting diverse pathways for future foreign language education development. Professor Chen Linhan, Vice President of SCBC, and Professor Zeng Yongqiang, Vice President of SCBC, attended the event upon invitation. Representatives from the Department of College English Teaching participated in the exchange activity.
During the opening ceremony, the Guangzhou Foreign Studies Association honored experts and scholars who have made outstanding contributions to foreign language education. Chen Linhan, Zeng Yongqiang, and eight other experts were awarded the “Hongru Chuanxin Award.”
During the academic forum, Professor Zeng Yongqiang delivered a presentation titled “Building a Comprehensive Foreign Language Competency Certification System,” examining the significant shifts in the foreign language learning ecosystem. He noted that students' learning content, methods, and assessment are increasingly diverse. Against this backdrop, students demonstrate their abilities through classroom performance, exam scores, academic competitions, practical projects,and other avenues. Therefore, he emphasized that institutions should adopt an integrated design approach to reconstruct the foreign language competency certification system. This reconstruction should focus on the structure of students' foreign language abilities, the forms of competency expression, and competency recognition models, thereby assessing students' learning outcomes from multiple perspectives.
SCBC Chess Team Wins Prize in GDUCC
From November 1st to 2nd, the 2025 Guangdong Province University Chess Championship (GDUCC) was held in Zhuhai City. This event was organized by the Guangdong Students' Sports and Art Federation and hosted by Zhuhai Rongguo Sports School. Four students from the SCBC chess team participated in the individual and team competitions. Ultimately, Xu Yi won the second place in the women's individual event, and the four team members, Xu Yi, Zeng Zizhen, Zhu Junyu, and Li Yunlin, achieved seventh place in the team competition.
Scholars from SCBC Appointed to Key Positions in Guangdong PCEM
On November 2nd, the Academic Annual Conference and Sixth Council Transition Meeting of the Guangdong Professional Committee of Education Modernization (PCEM) under the Guangdong Society Education convened. Faculty representatives of SCBC including Feng Zengjun, Dean of the School of Education; Xiao Jianfang, Vice Dean; Weng Lin, Vice Dean; and WuXinling, Director of the Research Office, attended the event. Centered on the theme “Digital Technology and Educational Integration,” SCBC's scholarly team assumed key roles in the newly formed council: Weng Lin was appointed Vice Chair person, whileWu Xinling and Xiao Jianfang were named Standing Council Members.
